Last night I held sprints in the Discord server and it went really, really well. I focused on developing one of my MCs and guys, he's a damn mess.

My jeep will be going to the shop tonight to get the door fixed. ;3; At least it's something that I already knew needed to be done.

I've decided on the title for my capstone exhibit (that's happening next year but you know, we have to work our entire senior year on it): These Dark and Hallowed Places.

Very brief Reading/Media Wednesday

In these dark times, a little joy can go a long way: The Toast is back for a one-day spectacular. (It's spectacular because they're back. And it's one day of posts just like in the old days, except without the comments...)

Things Read
Finally started Harbors of the Sun, the last Raksura novel, and I'm really enjoying the sweet interpersonal stuff and the fast-paced adventure that's the plot. Love Martha Wells' boundless imagination and fantastic world building.

Things Watched
We watched Kingsman this weekend, and it was the perfect movie for a Friday night with pizza and beer.

Just started Little Witch Academia which seems quite enjoyable - a show about girls! Without any boys at all! And so far a total of 0 panty shots?! Color me pleasantly surprised.

Twin Peaks: The Return blows my mind every single week and episode 11 was one of my favorites in a series that has been thoroughly outstanding.

Was home alone without Skuld for an evening, and checked out Saiyuki: Reload Blast, and it pretty much overwhelmed me with nostalgia. I have so many memories of the Saiyuki fandom both online and in Japan, and it's so bittersweet to have a new season now in 2017. (That's. Uh. ...14 years after I got in to it?)

Future Things
After I finish Harbors of the Sun there's other new releases to catch up on - like Megan Whalen Turner's Thick as Thieves. But I haven't settled on anything yet. The way the world is going, maybe I'll just re-read all of Yotsuba&! and Chi's Sweet Home. :/

I wanted to spotlight a few comms that need more love, and will happily take recs for more comms to join/subscribe! I didn't put fest comms on this list (maybe another time?) as most of the ones I've tracked down over here seem to be back ups and not active, which tbh is pretty frustrating. (Shoutout to [community profile] hd_fan_fair  for having prompt posting & claiming simultaneously on LJ and DW.)

[community profile] underheard - a multifandom rec comm for underappreciated fanfiction
[community profile] puppylove - remus/sirius central that nobody has posted in for years (sigh)
[community profile] yurionicefans - general yuri on ice comm open for everyone, also hosts challenges
[community profile] weasleyjumpers - the Weasleys, will have a fest later in the summer
[community profile] daily_snitch - just for the record bc the snitch is active here on dw as well and the reminder doesn't hurt
[community profile] volstovic_cycle - what it says on the tin

anything else I should know about?

Manga and Manga Recs?

So I read a lot of manga. Like...a lot. I prefer manga to anime tbh. I also, of course, prefer yaoi to anything else (except...maybe...your general shoujo!) but I've outgrown a lot of yaoi tropes but I keep reading it because I'm hoping I'll find a good yaoi manga. (Okay, I will admit, I quite like the big strong seme and the more smaller emotional uke amd the rape = love trope doesn't bother me as much as it does a lot of people but I just want the seme to respect the uke okay, I just want there to be love and respect sometimes). But I'm also looking for new manga in general to read but I just like manga a lot. ;3;

ANYWAY. I finally, finally got my act together and actually made accounts at MangaHere and Batoto. ;3; I also downloaded A Certain Manga Reader but tbh I'm kind of dumb and don't understand how to use it. But it's there for when I want to!

So anyway, manga recs, give me your manga recs! Like I said, I still quite like yaoi and shoujo but I'll try anything. :3

Also, I made an original fiction writers discord channel if anyone would be interested in joining! It is here: https://discord.gg/fsKAenq Invite your friends!

Hokusai: Beyond the Great Wave

A couple of weeks ago we went to the British Museum to have a look at their amazing Hokusai exhibition, and watch the movie "Miss Hokusai":

It was an experience that involved FAR larger crowds than anticipated (thanks to new security measures getting in on weekends now involve a lot of waiting), quite a bit of running, and getting out of the movie with less than an hour to spare before closing. As we've invested in a British Museum membership each, we didn't have to pay for the exhibition, and decided to go in, have a relatively quick look around, and then return early in the morning at some point. (In the meantime we bought the exhibit DVD and watched it in preparation, learning an incredible amount of new things about Hokusai in particular and the ukiyo-e artworld in general.)

We made it back this Saturday, when we had registered for a lecture on woodblock printing in the 21st century at 1.30pm, leaving us plenty of time to enjoy the exhibition and the rest of the museum. We woke up before 7am to make sure we'd make it down to London shortly after the museum opened, and when we got there it was gloriously free of crowds. We made a beeline for the exhibition which had pre-opened for members only, and spent a good two hours just... taking it all in.

It's a fantastic exhibition. The British Museum made this little video introduction, which I quite like:

And there was so much to see! I'll divide it into two parts: Hokusai prints (courtesy of the British Museum), and my photos from the trip.

And from the sublime to just my Galaxy 7S snapshots...

I bought Dragon Con tickets for myself and my sister! We're also going to the Night at the Georgia Aquarium thing too. It was pricey but I'll worry about that later lmao. [personal profile] imperion might be going, another friend is definitely going, and my nephew is going (that part is not so exciting, lmao). I also found out that another friend is going in a different group, so we're making plans to meet up at some point. I AM SO EXCITED, Y'ALL. *vibrates*

And I didn't even realize how close it is! Only 40 days away! Omggggggggg.
